City of Atascadero

Atascadero became the seventh incorporated city in San Luis Obispo County in 1979, and is the second largest in the county. Many of the very principles that E. G. Lewis had envisioned for his model community were written into the city’s first general plan, which called for the preservation of open space, protection of the trees and hillsides, the keeping of domestic animals and “elbow room.”
